2. Question
Put the story in order
- One day King Arthur told Merlin, the magician, “It is time for me to marry. I would like your advice about it.” And Merlin said, “Is there a woman you like?” “Yes”, replied the king, “I like Guinevere, the daughter of king Leodegrance. She is beautiful and gentle and I think she will be a great queen.”
- “Alas”, said Merlin, “If you didn’t love her so, I would suggest another lady, but there is nothing I can do now. The heart goes where it will and no man can change that.”
- So King Arthur sent his best knights to ask for the hand of Lady Guinevere in marriage. When he heard what they were coming for, King Leodegrance was very happy because he thought that King Arthur was a very good man.
- He wondered what to give him as a present and he decided to send a round table to him together with one hundred knights and his daughter. They traveled for a week back to Camelot.
- King Arthur met Lady Guinevere at the town gates and led her to the castle. On the next day there was a big celebration. Four young knights walked slowly towards the cathedral carrying four golden swords and King Arthur walked behind them.
- On the opposite side of the cathedral there walked four young ladies carrying four white doves and Lady Guinevere walked behind them dressed in her most beautiful clothes. The two processions met in the cathedral. After they got married in the cathedral, there was a big feast.
- They gathered around the round table and King Arthur said, “From now on we will gather around this table and talk about problems in the country. All of you can speak and I will listen to your opinion.”
- At the end of the feast when they had all eaten and drank until they were full, there was a big noise. A white dear ran into the hall followed by a white dog.
- The dear ran around the round table and the dog ran after it. Suddenly, the dog jumped and bit the dear on its back. The dear was so scared that it jumped over a knight who was sitting near the door and ran out through it.
- The knight stood up quickly, took the white dog, mounted on his horse and went after the dear. While the court was talking about this, there came a lady dressed in white on a white horse.
- She said, “King Arthur, one of your knights has stolen my dog. Please, make him give it back to me.” But before King Arthur could give a reply, a dark knight on a black horse ran into the room, caught the lady, put her on his horse and rode away with her while she was screaming.
- King Arthur chose some of his best knights and sent them to bring back the white dear, the white dog and the lady.
